Inactive members
A 2,000-member group where 300 people have said nothing in a year is not a 2,000-member group.
Sedge finds the members who stopped taking part, warns them on a schedule you choose, and removes them into a queue where somebody decides — rather than letting the roll quietly rot.
The default schedule
Three warnings, then a removal that a person can undo.
Every mark on this line is configurable, and any warning can be switched off. Removal can be turned off too — plenty of organisations only want the list.
Presets run from 7 to 90 days, and a custom value is accepted up to the maximum your plan allows.

Group admins are never removed for inactivity. Members who joined in the last 7 days are not counted.
How activity is measured
From what your account saw. Never from presence.
This is a deliberate line, not a limitation we are apologising for. Reading who was online and when is surveillance; counting what somebody posted in a group they joined is housekeeping.
- Messages the connected account observed in the group
- Media, links and mentions within those messages
- Reactions, where the provider reports them
- Joining and leaving the group
- Online status or “last seen”
- Read receipts
- Anything in a group Sedge is not protecting
- Direct messages of any kind
One consequence worth knowing before you buy: a member who reads every message and never posts looks identical to one who left the group open on an old phone. That is why removal goes to a review queue, and why group admins are exempt by default.

What a reviewer decides, and what each decision does.
What is on the case
- Days since the member last took part
- When they were last observed, and what they did
- When they joined
- Messages in total, and in the last 30 and 90 days
- Which warnings were sent, and when
- Any previous inactivity case for the same member
The decisions offered
- Restored
- Sedge adds the member back to the group they were removed from, or invites them if their privacy settings block a direct add.
- Kept removed
- The removal stands. The member can be restored later from the audit trail.
- Exempted
- The member is never removed for inactivity in this scope.
- Extended
- The member gets more time before the inactivity rule looks at them again.
- Banned
- The strongest outcome. Use it for repeat, deliberate abuse.
- Dismissed
- Closed with no change to the member.
Exemptions
The people who should never appear in this queue.
Committee members, service accounts, the treasurer who posts twice a year. Exempt them once and they stop being counted.
Exemptions can be permanent or expiring, and can apply to one group, one WhatsApp account, or the whole organisation. Group admins are exempt by default, and members who joined within the grace period are not evaluated at all.
