Terms of service

The agreement covering use of Sedge — what we provide, what you are responsible for, and the limits of both.

The service

Sedge applies moderation rules that you configure to WhatsApp groups you connect, records the reasoning behind each action, and routes removals into review queues. It is moderator assistance. It does not make judgements for you, and every automated action it takes is reversible by a person in your organisation.

Not a WhatsApp product

Sedge is an independent tool. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or a product of WhatsApp or Meta. WhatsApp is a trademark of Meta Platforms, Inc. Your use of WhatsApp remains governed by WhatsApp’s own terms, and nothing here changes them.

Choosing a provider

Sedge offers more than one way to connect. The official WhatsApp Cloud API is a compliant integration with the limits set out on the integrations page.

The linked-device adapter is not an official Meta integration. This is not an official Meta integration. Connecting an account this way is outside WhatsApp’s Terms of Service and the number you link may be restricted or banned by WhatsApp. Use a number you can afford to lose, and read the risk guidance before continuing. You acknowledge this in the product before connecting, and you accept that risk. We do not implement ban evasion, and we cannot restore an account WhatsApp restricts.

Your responsibilities

  • You must have the authority to moderate the groups you connect — in practice, you must be an administrator of them.
  • You are responsible for telling the members of your groups that the group is moderated, and how, where the law where you operate requires it.
  • You are responsible for the rules you configure and the decisions your team makes. Sedge records them; it does not make them.
  • You must keep your account credentials secure, and use two-factor authentication for accounts that can change moderation policy.

Acceptable use

Sedge may not be used to:

  • Moderate groups you do not administer, or monitor people who have not joined a group you run.
  • Build a profile of an individual’s behaviour for a purpose other than moderating your own community.
  • Harass, target or discriminate against members of a group.
  • Circumvent WhatsApp’s security controls, or evade a restriction WhatsApp has applied.
  • Send unsolicited messages of any kind. Sedge sends moderation notices, and nothing else.

An account may be suspended for a breach of this section. Where we do that, the reason is recorded and you are told what it was.

Plans, trials and payment

  • A trial is granted once per organisation. It cannot be reset from inside the product.
  • Subscriptions renew for the interval you chose until cancelled.
  • A failed payment moves the subscription to past due and then to a grace period. Both remain usable — we do not stop moderating a community because a card expired.
  • Cancelling ends renewal. Access continues to the end of the period you have paid for.
  • Plan limits are enforced rather than billed as overage. Reaching one blocks the next addition with a message saying which limit it was.

Your data

Your data remains yours. You can export your organisation’s data at any time, and an owner can delete the organisation, which schedules removal of everything belonging to it. What is collected and how long it is kept is set out in the privacy policy.

Availability

We aim to keep the service available and will tell you about planned maintenance in advance. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability, and some interruptions are outside our control — WhatsApp changing an interface, a provider restricting an account, or an upstream outage.

Limits of the service

Sedge applies rules; it does not understand messages. A weighted score is an ordering device, not a verdict, and it will sometimes be wrong in both directions. The product is designed around that: monitor mode is the default, removals open review cases, and every decision can be reversed. We do not warrant that Sedge will detect every unwanted message or that every action it takes will be correct.

Suspension and termination

You may stop using Sedge at any time. We may suspend an account for a breach of the acceptable use section, for non-payment after the grace period, or where required by law. Where we suspend an account, we say why and, except where the law prevents it, give you an opportunity to put it right.

Changes to these terms

If these terms change materially, account holders are told in the product before the change takes effect. Continuing to use Sedge after that date accepts the new terms.
